At Liverpool, I was the Director of Photography/Camera man. I feel my work on camera wasa better than i expected.
At first i needed a little bit of help from Chris with the technical side of things, but after that, i felt it was plain sailing. There is a few shots that are over exposed but i did that deliberately, and there is a shot of the BlueCoat building that is not quite level, its hardly noticeable, but that is due do the tripod being awkward, we did our best to have the shot completely level.
I shot some very nice stuff in the Display center, and in the gardens, but we all felt this wasnt going to be enough, So we were cheeky but charming, and we managed to aquire permission to shoot in the gallery as well.
As parts of the gallery were quite dark, some of the shots, did not come out as well as i predicted, i did my best to increase the exposure, but nothing muc seemed to work. The shots from the light places are beautiful.
The Voxpops came out very well. Some of the interviews are very interesting, without being boring, and they look brilliant too, apart from the fact of their eyeline. this was due to James being stood too far left of the camera, but this was not something we thought would be a problem until post.
Robbie, i feel was an excellent director. he knew how to motivate us, and get us working with out being bossy, he was open to ideas, which i find is a good trate in a director, and he took a relaxed but professional approach to the role.
James was producer. he did a great job, he had the file all sorted, he kept us all organised and had us knowing what we needed to be doing, when and where.
Zach did a briliant job on sound, he worked alongside me really well, and he didnt slack with the boom pole once, it never came into shot, and he managed to get each interview, and the sounds we needed, crystal clear.
Chris is working in post. editing. ive not seen his full work on this project yet, but what i have seen is looking fantastic, and from what ive seen of his editing in the past i know hes going to do a great job.
i feel we all worked very well together as a group, we had a simple but great idea, that has worked better than any of our expectations.

Documentary Project - idea
Zach, Robbie and Chris, researched places of public interest around Liverpool. Zach then emailed many of the places, one of them being The BlueCoat Gallery. Chris Zach and myself have all visited BlueCoat before and we found it very interesting.
Zach had a reply from the director of the BlueCoat display center and this is what she said.
Many thanks and good luck with your exercise,
kind regards,

The Bluecoat Display Centre is situated in the heart of Liverpool City Centre, neighbouring the newly regenerated Liverpool One area. We are surrounded by a wealth of galleries and shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as convenient parking and public transport links.
Zach had a reply from the director of the BlueCoat display center and this is what she said.
Dear Zach,
Thank you for your request - we are rather cramped for space and unfortunately we are changing exhibitions next week so quite busy. There is a garden outside and a large art centre, so you probably could do some around the building - check with tickets and information at the bluecoat - if you were just using very compact equipment and there was just one or two of you, we might be able to squeeze you in for 30 minutes or so, but be warned, any breakages would have to be paid for! Many thanks and good luck with your exercise,
kind regards,
Maureen BamptonDirector"

Information about BlueCoat
Charitable Aims
The Bluecoat Display Centre is a registered charity within Arts and Culture.
The objectives are:
1. Raising the public’s aesthetic appreciation in applied art and design; and
2. The provision of educational lectures, workshops and exhibitions at the Bluecoat Display Centre, Liverpool or at such other premises as the charity may from time to time occupy.
The Bluecoat Display Centre’s mission is to promote excellence in design and workmanship within the contemporary applied arts both nationally and internationally. We aim to increase the publics awareness and appreciation for the work of leading and emerging artists through exhibition, education, display and sale, and consequently to support the contemporary craft infrastructure.
Bluecoat Display Centre welcomes enquiries from organisations regarding charitable giving who empathise with these objects, and has many sponsorship opportunities connected to the exhibition and workshop programme.
History
The Bluecoat Display Centre originated as one of this country's earliest craft galleries in 1959. The founder of the Display Centre; Robert Gardner-Medwin, Professor of Architecture at Liverpool University, aimed to promote and display the work of leading designers of the time from a large studio in the Bluecoat Chambers. His ethos continues today, as a non profit distributing organisation promoting the finest contemporary craftwork by leading designer/makers.
Gardner-Medwin intended the work shown at the Display Centre to enhance good architecture and interior design and today we find we are still the place that leading professionals involved in Liverpool’s renaissance visit to achieve this.
What they do
The Bluecoat Display Centre is Liverpool’s only independent contemporary craft gallery. Since it was established in 1959, the Display Centre has been recognised nationally and internationally as one of the UK’s leading galleries specialising in contemporary applied arts, showing and selling some of the finest work made by professional craftspeople from the North West, across the British Isles and beyond.
Display Centre Director, Maureen Bampton and her team, continually endeavour to present new and challenging work and an annual series of changing exhibitions in a setting that is welcoming
and inspiring. The creative programme is supported by a series of artist-led workshop and talks, often by artists and makers who exhibit in the gallery.

Experimental Project - Evaluation.
The filming of our project went well. We came up with ideas on the spot which came to hopefully help the film, for example the egg we added, it is a symbol of life, and is a fragile object, and that is what we want to portray in our film, the fragility of life. im hoping this doesnt get taken as a gimic, or the meaning is not noticed.
we filmed everyday tasks such as, cooking, eating, etc, and we filmed forms of origami, such as a shirt made from a 5 pound note, also with that note, a couple of creases and different angles make the queen go from happy to sad, we want this to portray that money can make you happy or sad, depending on what type of person you are. we used a filmed a time lapse of the sky to show the passing of time.
we never really ahd any technical snags, as we followed the instructions given in the workshops on setting up the camera.
in the editing, this was my task, things ran smoothly, i never encountered any difficulties that i usually get with final cut. it was a time consuming process as ever. i enjoyed super imposing andf time lapsing the imagery the most. i tried playing with the colours of some shots, but i couldnt get them looking as well as i'd hoped, so i think i need to learn to use those effects a little bit better, practice makes perfect.
overall i feel this film has worked really well, i showed it to my flatmates, and they felt they understood the film, and im hoping the group does too.

Experimental Project - Our Idea.
In this project i am working with Zach and Owen. Originally, we were thinking about working with a poem for our idea, but we thought that would be too easy, and we wanted to challenge ourselves.
So we sat down and pondered for a while, and Owen, came up with the idea of portraying a man getting fired from his job, and trying to find a new one through origami.
This idea then proved very time consuming, and we simply did not have the time to do it. So, as we began filming we decided to change our idea, to being close to life showing the every day tasks, and the fragility of life, and how, things can be monotonous in life, and a person picks up scars along the way, and kills themselves knowingly.
Also we decided to keep part of the origami idea in there.

Exerimental Project - Telling Lies
this film has inspired me to make our film, as true to life as possible.
Experimental Project - Koyaanisqatsi
Koyaanisqatsi, personally bored me to death. Although, the compelling idea of capturing the essence of life, inspired me for our idea, it just didnt do it for me.
The film itself, was planned extremely well, and looks as though it was extremely time consuming to make. I think Godfrey Reggio, has a keen eye for some beautiful shots, and they do make the audience look at the world in a different way, the film tends to become a bit tedious after about 30 mins.
